Assessment can be a very positive experience for learners who are struggling but don’t know why.<\/p>

For children with SpLDs, early intervention is key.\u00a0A diagnostic assessment will provide a full picture of the cognitive strengths and weaknesses which may be affecting their development of reading, writing, spelling and numeracy skills.<\/p>

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tBefore assessment, parents are sent a family questionnaire and a school questionnaire to pass onto your child’s class teacher or SENCo.\n\nParents are asked to provide as much information as possible because background history is an important part of the diagnostic process.\n\nOnce the questionnaires have been returned, a deposit secures the assessment date.\n\nChildren need to have had an eye test within the last 2 years and will need to bring anything they usually use at school such as reading glasses or coloured overlays to the assessment.\n\nThe cost of a full diagnostic assessment is \u00a3625.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

On the day, an assessment usually takes about 3 hours including breaks. Your child will be given a wide variety of short, interesting tasks to complete which look at:<\/p>\n

  • Underlying Ability <\/strong>– verbal and visual ability<\/li>\n
  • Cognitive Profile <\/strong>– memory, phonological awareness and speed of processing <\/span><\/li>\n
  • Attainment <\/strong>– reading, writing, spelling <\/span>and maths, if requested<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    After the assessment, I can answer questions and briefly outline initial thoughts, but will need time to analyse the quantitative and qualitative information in order to give a diagnosis.<\/p>\n

    The full report, including a diagnosis when appropriate, will be emailed within 3 weeks as a password protected PDF.<\/p>\n

    The report contains a 2-3 page summary of findings, in-depth analysis of each area of testing, recommendations for support at school, home and specialist tuition plus guidance on exam access arrangements if appropriate.<\/p>\n
