Dyslexia Assessments
Why assess?
Assessment can be a very positive experience for learners who are struggling but don’t know why.
For children with SpLDs, early intervention is key. A diagnostic assessment will provide a full picture of the cognitive strengths and weaknesses which may be affecting their development of reading, writing, spelling and numeracy skills.
Once identified, the in-depth report provides personalised recommendations which can be put into place both at school and home to help support learning.

What happens on the Day?
On the day, an assessment usually takes about 3 hours including breaks. Your child will be given a wide variety of short, interesting tasks to complete which look at:
- Underlying Ability – verbal and visual ability
- Cognitive Profile – memory, phonological awareness and speed of processing
- Attainment – reading, writing, spelling and maths, if requested
Even though it sounds like a long session, most children seem to quite enjoy the assessment process!

What happens Next?
After the assessment, I can answer questions and briefly outline initial thoughts, but will need time to analyse the quantitative and qualitative information in order to give a diagnosis.
The full report, including a diagnosis when appropriate, will be emailed within 3 weeks as a password protected PDF.
The report contains a 2-3 page summary of findings, in-depth analysis of each area of testing, recommendations for support at school, home and specialist tuition plus guidance on exam access arrangements if appropriate.
If parents would like to ask further questions after receiving the report, I am always happy to arrange a call to discuss.
