Dyslexia assessments for children age 8 – 18 in West London

What is dyslexia?

Dyslexia is a specific learning difficulty (SpLD) that primarily affects the skills involved in accurate and fluent word reading and spelling. However, it can also affect speaking, writing, processing of information, organisation and memory.

It is neurological in origin, often runs in families and is a life-long condition. Dyslexia can affect people in quite different ways, some more severely than others and every person with dyslexia will have a unique set of strengths and weaknesses.

The children who are a puzzle to parents and teachers are the ones who seem bright and talented in some areas, but have surprising difficulty in others. One child might be incredibly articulate and full of creative ideas but struggle to put more than a couple of lines onto paper. Another might be a genius at maths but at a loss when they open a book. And then there is the child who can create a complex piece of code but finds it impossible to remember ‘simple’ instructions.

Children do not all learn in exactly the same way. Some brains are just wired differently and need to try a new approach to learning.

These are the children who interest me. With the right support in place, these children can really start to believe in themselves and fly.

"We have been working with Jenny throughout this and last academic year. Jenny is quick to establish a warm and welcoming environment for the pupil, putting them instantly at ease. Jenny is calm and reassuring to the pupils and is quick to turn around documents, which certainly helps in the process of making access arrangement applications. It says something when all the pupils come out of the assessment saying that they really did enjoy the experience."

"I just wanted to say thank you so much for such a thorough assessment and all the time and hard work you have put in. Your findings have really helped to understand and explain some of the things we have been 'battling' with over the last few years and provide clarity on what's going on."
